MCDONALD'S WILL USE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TO AUTOMATICALLY CHANGE DRIVING MENUS

This could give McFlurrys a greater investment in warm weather, for example.

In the near future, when you pass by McDonald's, you will notice that the menu changes as you order it to persuade you to buy some more items. The fast food giant is buying a young machine, Dynamic Yield, for $ 300 million, and the first stop for the company's artificial intelligence is the drive-thru window.

The system will consider factors such as weather, time, local events, traffic levels of restaurants and nearby roads, historical sales data, current popular items and even what you request. Optimize menu screens in windows controlled by the driver. For example, they can promote McFlurry or iced coffee on hot days, or suggest simpler items that are faster for employees to prepare for long lines.

McDonald's tested artificial intelligence at several restaurants last year, and executive vice president and information director, Daniel Henry, told Wired that he expects more than 1,000 sites to use it in the next three months. The system will eventually reach the 14,000 US restaurants and it will be extended to other markets. McDonald's is also considering integrating artificial intelligence with online order kiosks and its mobile application, as well as perhaps other activities such as kitchens.

The dynamic performance will continue to function as an independent company. Current clients include Ikea, Sephora and Urban Outfitters. The potential applications of its new parent company are, however, particularly intriguing. For example, Henry said the company could possibly use license plate recognition as part of the system. In this way, artificial intelligence could identify your car and customize the menu according to the history of your purchases.
